Because Toph is a troll. even to her own kid.  

Everyone talks like Lin would be really upset about her scars, but I don’t actually think she would be, and I think Toph would brush them off too. They’re some badass ladies, and scars are just badges of honor to them.  So I think Lin would not be that upset. and Toph would joke about them. because that’s how the Bei Fongs roll.
